To our friends in the business community, welcome to the City of Newark. We take great pride in the outstanding reputation that we enjoy as a business friendly community and the City is pleased that you are considering opening a business in Newark. To get started, please research whether there are any additional requirements needed in order to operate your business. Businesses should be aware of requirements from other Federal, State, County and City Governments that affect their own business. The payment of a business license tax does not relieve the business applicant of the requirement to comply with regulations from other government entities. If you have any questions about starting a business in Newark please contact us at (510) 578-4310, or finance@newark.org.

The following list of government agencies may include information on some of the requirements that may apply to your business. However, any questions about the necessary permits that are required for a particular business should be addressed to the appropriate government agency before applying for your City of Newark business license.
