City Commissions and Committees play an important role in city government by serving in an advisory capacity to the City Council. Members provide input on a variety of issues that are crucial to maintaining our quality of life.
General requirements are that applicants must have an interest in civic involvement, must be 18 years of age or older, and a resident of Newark (some committee or commission positions may have additional requirements.)

Notice of Commission/Committee Vacancies
The City of Newark is accepting applications from Newark residents interested in serving on the Planning Commission or the Measure GG Oversight Committee.
The Planning Commission reviews and takes action on certain planning applications and makes recommendations to the City Council on land use issues. Meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. There is one vacancy for a term that expires on December 31, 2027.
The Measure GG Transactions and Use Tax Oversight Committee reviews expenditures of the revenue from the Measure GG Transactions and Use Tax (Utility Users Tax). The Committee also submits a written report to the City Council on an annual basis. Meetings are held annually. There is one vacancy for a term that expires on April 12, 2026.
Persons interested in serving are invited to apply. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the City of Newark. Appointees will be required to file a Form 700, Statement of Economic Interest with the City Clerk within 30 days of their appointment and complete two hours of ethics training within one year of their appointment.
Paratransit Advisory and Planning Committee (PAPCO)
The City of Newark is seeking a volunteer to serve on the Paratransit Advisory and Planning Committee (PAPCO). PAPCO advises the Alameda County Transportation Commission on the development and implementation of paratransit programs. They also make decisions on transportation funding for seniors and people with disabilities.
The meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Alameda CTC offices in Oakland.
Applicants must be Newark residents who use transportation that supports seniors and people with disabilities.
Applications will be accepted in the City Clerk's office until the vacancy is filled.
