Engage with Newark’s Vision: Your voice matters
The City of Newark values your input and wants everyone in our community to play an integral role in shaping the future of the City. We would like to hear feedback from community members that live, work, play and visit Newark on three vital initiatives, the Active Transportation Plan, the Citywide Facilities Master Plan, and the Citywide Park Master Plan.
Active Transportation Plan
Newark’s Active Transportation Plan will serve as an update to the City’s 2017 Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan, a comprehensive planning document that develops and prioritizes infrastructure improvements to support walking, biking, and rolling (such as skateboards, scooters, and assistive mobility devices) in the City. The Active Transportation Plan will establish an updated vision and actions to expand a safe, comfortable, and accessible bicycle and pedestrian network for people of all ages and physical abilities.
We have prepared an interactive map that allows you to view Newark’s existing bicycle and pedestrian network and add your comments, concerns, or ideas for new or improved facilities directly to the map. We encourage all residents to visit the webmap and provide their input through October 15, 2023. You can access the webmap by following the link: https://fp.mysocialpinpoint.com/newark-atp.
For further information on the project, please visit the project website at https://www.newark.org/departments/public-works/engneering-division/active-transportation-plan.
If you have any questions regarding the plan, please contact Esther Jung, Associate Civil Engineer, at (510) 578-4298 or by email at esther.jung@newark.org.
Update on the Facilities Master Plan
We have been listening! The survey and phase one of community engagement is complete, and we have heard you. The City’s consultant, Group 4 Architecture & Planning, has evaluated the results and will present some potential options during the second round of community outreach on how to meet the needs expressed by the community. To see what they have come up with, join us at the Newark Days Community Info Fair on September 17th from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. For more information on the Plan, please visit the website at https://www.newark.org/residents/community-master-plans or email roya.gonzalez@newark.org.
Citywide Parks Master Plan Update
You’re invited! The City of Newark invites you to join the conversation as we begin the update of the 2017 Citywide Parks Master Plan. The update will build on the existing plan by identifying the recreational needs of all segments of the Newark community and serve as a “roadmap” for future park planning and development.
What do you want to see in Newark Parks? The conversations and input will help identify the needs of the community and will guide the recommendations in the Citywide Parks Master Plan. The community engagement phase will kick-off with an online survey and the first community outreach event that will take place at the Newark Days Community Info Fair on September 17th from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.comn/r/6FG2CPC.

What to do with unwanted stuff?
Search the Re:Source guide for reuse, repair, recycling or safe disposal options.
Are milk cartons accepted in your blue recycling cart? How can you get rid of an old mattress? What’s the safest way to get rid of paint? What you do with unwanted stuff makes a difference to the health and safety of our community. To help residents determine the appropriate option, the City of Newark has shared StopWaste’s interactive Re:Source Guide on the City’s website.
Simply enter your item and city or zip code to get a list of options sorted by distance or other criteria you can choose. The results include places for disposal, recycling, repair, and reuse, for everything from electronics and clothes to furniture and bicycles!
In addition, the Re:Source Guide has up-to-date information about your curbside service, including a detailed list of what goes into which bin.
Please help Newark keep as much good stuff out of the landfill as possible! Remember that recycling and composting properly is the law for all residents and businesses in California.

Installing LED technology will save energy, require less maintenance, and improve the volume of color and provide a more uniform light distribution. In addition to the improved light quality, the LED upgrade is expected to yield over $218,000 in energy savings in the first year.
The project will be phased over 6-8 weeks. A phasing map and a list of FAQs will be posted on the website by the end of September.
